        The Extra-high Voltage Control and Protection Engineering Lab of Power System for Mechanical Industry mainly works on such researches of EHV DC transmission control and protection technology, EHV AC transmission protection and automation technology, EHV DC transmission control and protection simulation, EHV AC transmission dynamic simulation test, protocol test technology, etc..

        The Lab covers an area as large as 6,790 m2. The office space covers 1,295 m2 and the test site covers 5,495 m2. So far, with the latest configuration, the Lab has a super-large scale digital simulation system of the power system composed of RTDS with 22 Racks and a physical simulation system of the power system composed of four power generating units, 12 transformers, wires of above 2,000 km and various load models. It can carry out eight full-voltage dynamic simulation tests of various AC/DC control and protection simultaneously and is the largest, strongest simulation lab of the power system with the richest experiences at home. It can perform simulation tests of the protection system at EHV class and below, filling in test gaps of AC relay protection and EHV DC transmission; in the aspect of electromagnetic compatibility test, it has a 3m anechoic chamber and has the capacity of implementing 14 items of electromagnetic compatibility test required by the IEC standard; in the aspect of protocol test, it can carry out tests on the IEC61850 and IEC61870-5 communication protocol consistency, forming test research and verification capability of developing EHV control and protection at internationally advanced level.
